April 1st, 2005 BY KEITH NUTHALLEUROPEAN Union (EU) health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou has called on the European Parliament to support a new European Union Solidarity Fund that could help governments cope with a possible bird flu outbreak amongst EU citizens. It would replace an existing fund created to help fund emergency responses to major disasters such as oil spills, having more flexible rules on its spending.
