KRAFT WINS ECJ ‘MILKO’ TRADEMARK CASE

BY KEITH NUTHALL ADDING different alphabet versions of a trademark may not prevent the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling a proposed mark is too similar to a registered brand. The court ruled Delta Protypos Viomichania Galaktos, of Greece, cannot register as a European Union (EU) trademark its 'Milko' sign, written in western Latin and Greek alphabets, for "milk with cocoa" products.
