BY RICHARD HURSTZAMBIA'S Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has announced that it expects its copper cathode production to increase to 300,000 tons per year in 2004, due to the 50,000 tons which will be produced from the residues of its Nchanga operation.During 2002 KCM produced 222,000 tons of copper, accounting for roughly two thirds of the country's annual metals production.The Nchanga open pit mine and leaching plant is to process residues from 150 million tons of refractory ores from the nearby town of Chingola to produce an estimated 50,000 tons of copper cathode. ...
