JAPAN’S NH FOODS PLOTS LATIN AMERICAN EXPANSION THROUGH URUGUAY ACQUISITION

Japan’s NH Foods Ltd is to buy Uruguayan major meat processing company Breeders & Packers Uruguay SA (BPU) to increase its meat supply capacity in emerging markets, notably in Asia, and to tap the major mature beef consumption markets in North America and Europe. The USD135 million acquisition from UK-based Hoxton Holdings Ltd was announced on April 28. Stock transfer is scheduled for this month - May 31 - and BPU is expected to be established as a consolidated subsidiary of NH Foods by March 2018, the end of Japan’s 2017 fiscal year.
