JAA BREAK-UP MOVES FORWARD

BY KEITH NUTHALL

THE OUTGOING Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) system and liaison office will close by June 30, 2009, a working group has declared. With many JAA functions now being handled by the European Union's (EU) European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the JAA Training Organisation in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, will continue operating as an associate of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). Meanwhile, EASA will create
its own liaison office in 2009, helping it continue JAA pan-European policies, including non-EU countries.
