IRELAND SHELLFISH WATER QUALITY IMPROVED AFTER LEGAL PRESSURE

IRELAND has installed pollution reduction programmes designed to protect key shellfish waters, says the European Commission. This follows a 2003 European Court of Justice censure saying 14 shellfish waters had been left at risk, breaking the European Union shellfish water directive. Brussels says Dublin has now decided "to safeguard the shellfish-growing areas from water pollution threats".
