IRELAND RELAXED OVER ABALONE DISEASE OUTBREAK

THE IRISH government has accepting Xenohaliotis californiensis is "endemic in existing H. tuberculata [abalone] farms in Ireland."

This follows four outbreaks last year affecting 344,000 abalone in counties Cork, Galway and Kerry and a new infestation at a National University of Ireland, Galway, marine institute. Because "the abalone appears to be surviving...without any noticeable adverse effects no eradication will be done," said Ireland's agriculture and food ministry.
