BY KEITH NUTHALLEUROPEAN Union health Commissioner David Byrne has revealed that the European Commission is planning to update European Union (EU) packaging legislation regarding so-called 'active' and 'intelligent' packaging. Speaking in Brussels, Mr Byrne said officials were examining how to update the existing 1989 directive "materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs".
