INDIA PUSH FOR ORGANIC FOOD EXPORTS

INDIA will strongly promote the export of organic food items to European Union (EU), United States, Switzerland, Japan and South Korea, the country's Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has announced. It wants to double exports from their current level of US$100 million in 2008. About 380,000 Indian farmers annually produce 400,000 tons of certified organic products that include cereals, rice, pulses, honey, tea, spices, coffee, oil seeds, fruits and processed foods.
