IMPERIAL Sugar has shut down the refinery that gave a sweet name to a Houston suburb. The company closed its 77-year-old Sugar Land, Texas operation, blaming a US market glut and the refinery's distance to cane crops. Imperial had been milling or refining in Sugar Land since the mid-1800s.
