Illinois governor backs airport land purchase

BY KATE REWTHE REPUBLICAN Governor of Illinois, George Ryan, has said that he wants the state to buy land for a new regional airport for Peotone (correct), near Chicago. But Chicago Democrats have vowed to fight the move, although both sides agree that the lack of air capacity in the state needs to be addressed.There are already two other airports in Chicago, O'Hare and Midway. Democrats, headed by the Chicago Mayor, Richard Daley, believe that overcrowding could be relieved by adding extra runways to the two existing airports. Daley had little trouble stalling ...
