HORIZON 2020 APPROVED – WITH FUSION GETTING MAJORITY OF NUCLEAR SPENDING

THE EUROPEAN Parliament has approved a new Euro EUR1.6 billion spending programme for nuclear energy research, as part of the EUR78.6 billion (at today’s prices) European Union (EU) Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Of that budget, EUR636 million will be set aside for nuclear fusion research, and EUR318 million for fission.MEPs also approved a separate spending programme to support fusion reactor project ITER, which will have an additional EUR2.5 billion set aside.
