GOA IRON ORE MINES FACE CLOSURE RISK

A SENIOR environmental official in Goa has warned 45 iron ore mines in the Indian state Goa, mostly exporting to China, face closure as the validity of their environmental clearances certificates granted by the national government's ministry of environment and forests has been called into question. "If the certificates are not valid then they have to close down", said Simon de Sousa, chairman of Goa State Pollution Control Board.
