The overall paint market is mature, stable, highly competitive and characterised, at least in recent years, by virtually no growth. This is almost wholly due to the prolonged slowdown in house building which has also affected the DIY trade - between them, professional and amateur painters and decorators account for about half of all paint purchases in Germany.
