FOOD COLOURING EFSA WARNING LYCOPENE
January 1st, 2005 BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has warned that the use of lycopene obtained from Blakeslea trispora as a food colouring may be unsafe. Its scientific panel on dietetic products, nutrition and allergies has noted that it could increase exposure compared with "mean intake from natural dietary sources by a considerable margin".
