FINLAND FACES FURTHER ECJ COURT ACTION OVER SNUS

BY KEITH NUTHALL FINLAND'S alleged failure to crack-down sufficiently hard on the sale of oral tobacco in its autonomous Åland Islands region has prompted the formal warning of potential further legal action by the European Commission. It is threatening a request that Helsinki receive daily recurring fines of Euro 1,000s until the islands comply with European Union (EU) directive 2001/37/EC, which bans oral tobacco from the EU.
