FATF RELEASES CROWDFUNDING TERROR ABUSE WARNING AS HAMAS ACCUSED OF ABUSING SYSTEMS IN ISRAEL ATTACK

FATF has released detailed guidance on how crowd-funding networks can be abused by terrorist groups, as US FIU FinCEN has warned these have been abused by Gaza-based terror group Hamas, following its massacre and abduction of Israeli and foreign nationals on October 7 (1). With this prompting an aggressive Israeli military response with further loss of civilian lives, the global AML/CFT body has advised law enforcement and obliged bodies to look for red flags that crowdfunding might be tapped by terrorists (2).
