EX-UKIP MEP DOES TIME FOR EXPENSES FRAUD

BY KEITH NUTHALL A FORMER MEP for Britain's UK Independence Party (UKIP) has become the first MEP to be convicted for misuse of European Union (EU) funds whilst an elected official. Tom Wise has been sentenced by Southwark Crown Court, London, to two years' imprisonment for fraud. This follows investigations by the EU anti-fraud office OLAF and British police. Wise admitted false accounting totalling GBPounds 39,000, claiming GBPounds 3,000 per month of parliamentary secretarial assistance allowances, while paying his assistant only GBPounds 500 per month. ...
