Keith NuthallTHE EUROPEAN Union's (EU) statistical agency Eurostat should gain formal independence from the European Commission, helping it freely assess European and national government accounts. An EU Council of Ministers (finance) resolution said: "Eurostat should be in a better position to analyse the quality of reported public finance data".
