EUROPOL OPERATION BUSTS MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COUNTERFEITING-MONEY LAUNDERING NETWORK

A two-year joint-operation between Europol and the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) has shut down a EUR300 million money laundering and counterfeit goods network focused on Spain. ‘Operation Snake’ closed in on the gang on May 11, with more than 200 officers searching 65 residences and making 35 arrests. The criminal group – run from China – imported millions of euros worth of counterfeit goods in Spain and then laundered the profits through hundreds of private bank accounts.
