EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT POSTPONES EXCISE DUTY VOTE

THE EUROPEAN Parliament has failed to agree a proposed increase in excise duty minimum rates across the European Union (EU), referring the proposal back to its economic affairs committee, delaying any hike by at least two months. The European Commission wants minimum rates increased by 31% to mirror inflation since 1992, when the excise floor was introduced.
