EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT COMMITTEE PROPOSES WIDE ACCESS TO BENEFICIAL OWNERSHIP REGISTERS

EUROPEAN Union (EU) citizens should be able to access registers of beneficial owners of companies without having to demonstrate a legitimate interest, according amendments proposed to the EU’s fourth anti-money laundering directive (AMLD4) at the European Parliament today (Tues Feb 28). MEPs on the parliament’s economic and monetary affairs and civil liberties committees also proposed changes that would impose the same transparency requirements within the directive on trusts that are already mandated for companies.
