EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ATTACKS EU’S WOEFUL RECORD ON RARE DISEASE CONTROL

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Parliament has called for a hastening and intensifying of reforms to how the European Union (EU) fights rare diseases, criticising the EU's woeful track record on this key health issue. Amending a formal set of guidelines for EU institutions and member governments, the parliament said: "Rare diseases contribute heavily to the death rate in Europe but often go unrecorded owing to weaknesses in healthcare data systems.
