THE EUROPEAN Commission has announced that European Union member states can grant aid confectionery and other food production research projects without asking its permission. Brussels currently controls such subsidies.
Food companies would henceforth be able to request 100% funding of projects from their national governments, although promising to publish the results on the Internet for five years.
