THE MEAT industry will have to take account of new complex maximum levels for dioxins and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in food and feed announced by the European Commission this week. Brussels has set maximum levels for dioxins in meat, dairy products and animal feed since July 2002. However, due to lack of sufficient data, no levels were set for dioxin-like PCBs.
