EUROPEAN COMMISSION HINTS AT FURTHER MARKETING RESTRICTIONS ON TOBACCO SALES

THE EUROPEAN Commission has signalled that it is prepared to introduce further restrictions on tobacco marketing and advertising within the European Union (EU) notably at the point-of-sale.
A report assessing the impact of the 2003 EU tobacco marketing directive concludes: "There are indications that tobacco promotion has intensified in local merchandising and at points of sale, especially in member states that either allow it or do not effectively control it."
