EUROPE: NEW RESEARCH COMMISSIONER WILL FIGHT FOR EU ‘RESEARCH AREA’

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, nominated the next EU Commissioner for research, science and innovation, has ambitiously promised MEPs her aim is nothing less than the completion of a European Research Area (ERA), where researchers' work can be undertaken in all 27 member states. In a confirmation hearing in Brussels, she promised during her five-year mandate to address European society's "grand challenges."
