EURO V AND VI APPROVED BY EU MINISTERS

THE EUROPEAN Union Council of Ministers has approved the imposition of new Euro V air pollution cleanliness standards on cars and vans, which will be enforced from 2009, while setting down some rules for a future Euro VI standard. These standards have been supported by EU vehicle manufacturers, as opposed to proposals to limit CO2 emissions from cars, which have sparked criticism. Euro V would "ensure a high level of environmental protection", said a council note.
