EURO COIN COUNTERFEITING INCREASE REPORT

THE NUMBER of counterfeit Euro coins in circulation increased last year to 96,000, an increase of about 29% from 2004, with 3,557 being seized before being circulated. Brussels said the fakes were mostly copper-nickel 2-euro coins with a German national side. Other Euro coins are made of nickel-brass, Nordic gold and copper-covered steel discs.
