EURATOM RENEWAL

THE EUROPEAN Convention - the body drawing up a constitution for the European Union - has dropped its controversial proposal to include the Euratom treaty in its articles. Instead, the Convention has introduced an annex, insisting upon a legal separation between the EU and Euratom. The decision was welcomed by environmental groups, which had opposed the inclusion. Indeed Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth have claimed the move would allow Member States to opt out of Euratom without having to leave the EU.
