EU WELCOMES WTO RULING ON RARE EARTHS

THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) trade commissioner, Karel de Gucht, has welcomed the ruling by the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) appeal body against China’s restrictions of rare earths, tungsten and molybdenum exports.This is “another milestone in the EU’s efforts to ensure fair access to much-needed raw materials for its industries,” he said in an Aug 7 statement of the European Commission. “This ruling sends a clear signal that export restrictions cannot be used to protect or promote domestic industries at the expense of foreign competitors,” Mr de ...
