THE NEGOTIATIONS for a free trade agreement (FTA) between the European Union (EU) and the United States, which started this month in Washington DC (July 8), could push the world towards a truly global vehicle regulatory system for the first time, according to EU sources close to the negotiations.These talks would involve using the planned EU-US trade agreement to secure mutual recognition of US and EU standards in car safety tests.
