EUROPEAN Union (EU) negotiators are approaching the final decision over the future of EU sugar quotas, with a deal expected between the European Parliament and EU Council of Ministers by the end of June. What is almost certain is the current phase-out date of 2015 is dead. MEPs have backed extending production quotas to 2012, while EU ministers have said they can continue to the 2016/7 marketing year.
