EU SIGNS OPEN SKIES DEAL WITH AZERBAIJAN

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has signed another open skies deal with a near neighbour, with the Caspian Sea republic of Azerbaijan. The deal follows the usual model, allowing all EU airlines access to Azeri airports and Azeri airlines access to airports in the EU. The number of passengers flying between the EU and Azerbaijan tripled between 2000 and 2007 to more than 210,000 passengers per year, with the main arrivals and departures markets in Europe being Britain, Germany and Austria.
