BY KEITH NUTHALLA HIGH level meeting involving the European Union's (EU) most senior energy official and Russia's vice-prime minister has kick-started moves to interconnect the EU and Russian power grids, leading to a final decision on the technical means by 2007. European Commission energy director general Francois Lamoureux and Russian grid operator 'RAO UESR' chief Anatoly Chubais agreed to launch and co-finance a feasibility study on the "synchronous interconnection of their UCTE and IPS/UPOS systems".
