EU ROUND UP – BRUSSELS ORDERS CONTROLS ON PLASTICS CHEMICALS

THE EUROPEAN Commission has ordered that four chemicals used by the plastics industry be tightly controlled over health concerns. Brussels has said that in future companies wanting to use or sell them in the European Union (EU) must secure special permission from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The chemicals concerned are tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), plasticiser diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), lead sulfochromate yellow (pigment yellow 34), and diarsenic trioxide (which has a minor plastics industry use).
