BY KEITH NUTHALLTHE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has pushed ahead with securing more overseas fishing access deals for EU fishing crews in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Crucially EU ministers have been formally asked to approve a deal regarding the key Pacific grounds off the Solomon Islands.This would run for three years, and is unlike the standard access deals in the Indian and Atlantic because the tuna taken by EU fleets could increase in its second and third years if requested by Brussels, if there was no opposition from local and regional fishing management bodies. ...
