EU ROUND UP – SINGLE-USE PLASTIC BAGS SHOULD BE PHASED-OUT, SAYS EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

LIGHTWEIGHT single-use plastic bags should be phased-out by 2020, the European Parliament said in January (Jan 14th) in a non-legally binding resolution. This was a formal response to a European Commission policy paper looking into managing plastic waste. MEPs also called for potentially toxic plastics to be withdrawn from the market. The parliament’s motion said the European Union (EU) should introduce tough mandatory recycling targets for plastic waste, when EU waste laws are assessed later this year.
