EU RELEASES FIRST DATA REPORT ON OIL AND GAS SECTOR SAFETY

THE FIRST detailed European Commission report on European Union (EU) oil and gas industry safety has shown that 26.2% of significant offshore accidents involved the loss of control over wells, activating blowout diverters. There were 11 such incidents in 2016 – the year covered by the report - which was released in August (2018). Also, there were 25 unintended releases of materials from EU offshore installations, mostly in the North Sea.
