RECENT remarks by José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, on the need to control monopolies and promote competition in the energy sector are "a clear pointer" to the long-awaited energy package that Brussels is planning to announce on January 10, 2007, Commission officials have told Modern Power Systems.
