EU PREPARES FOR LONG TERM REFORMS TO PACKAGING AND PACKAGING WASTE LEGISLATION

ALTHOUGH the European Commission has concluded that there is no immediate need for any revision of the packaging and packaging waste directive 94/62/EC, a 2006 report on options for the packaging industry trumpets Brussels' view that there is long term work required.
Essentially it finds that while there may now be a satisfactory level of recycling and reduced use of packaging, the goals of strengthening the internal market and reducing trade barriers "have not yet been fully achieved for all types of packaging."
