EU PIGMEAT EXPORTS FALL IN 2017, AMIDST GENERALLY POSITIVE OVERSEAS SALES PERFORMANCE FOR MEAT AND LIVESTOCK

EUROPEAN Union (EU) pigmeat exports fell by EUR146 million in 2017, compared to export sales in 2016, new trade figures released by the European Commission reveal. The figures, covering fresh, chilled and frozen cuts and carcasses, show pigmeat sales (down from EUR5.2 billion to EUR5 billion) to be the only negative export trend for the EU meat and livestock industry last year, with sales outside the EU of other categories and live animals all increasing.
