EU MINISTERS AND MEPS STRIKE DEAL OVER ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME LAW

EUROPEAN Union (EU) paint and coatings companies must take additional care they are not breaching pollution and health laws in future after the agreement of an EU directive criminalising all serious environmental offences. The law insists a number of wrongful actions be punished by "effective, proportionate and dissuasive" criminal penalties. These actions would include:
*Improper handling, transport and disposal of waste, dangerous substances or preparations so that the environment maybe substantially damaged;
