EU LIVESTOCK ANIMAL WELFARE IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAMME – SPECIAL WELFARE LABEL

AN ACTION plan on improving the welfare of livestock could lead to a European Union (EU)-wide labelling system identifying meat produced from animals given above average care and attention. This idea is part of a European Commission welfare programme for 2006-10, announced on Monday (23-1) by EU health and consumer affairs Commissioner Markos Kyprianou. Speaking in Brussels, he said: "The protection and welfare of animals is crucial, not least for ethical and moral reasons but also to ensure animal health and the quality of food". ...
