EU LAUNCHES URGENT PROBE INTO NICOTINE CONTAMINATED DRIED MUSHROOMS

THE EUROPEAN Commission has demanded am urgent inquiry by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) into why dried mushrooms and truffles have been found to be contaminated with nicotine across Europe. EFSA will examine whether fertilisers or maybe mishandling during processing and packaging is to blame: the Commission fears food workers could have been smoking and also that fungi have been dried in the same room as tobacco.
