EU LAUNCHES DISPUTES CASE AGAINST COLOMBIA OVER ALLEGED DUTY DISCRIMINATION OVER SPIRITS

THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has called on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to establish a disputes panel to rule on its claims that Colombia is breaking global trade rules over Colombia’s alleged “discriminatory treatment” of imported spirits. Colombia taxes spirits with an alcohol-by-volume (abv) content of more than 35% at Colombian Pesos COP487 (USD0.17) per degree of alcohol, compared to those with 35% abv or less - charged at COP297 (USD0.10) per degree of alcohol.
