THE EUROPEAN Commission has published a final opinion from an expert committee on whether plastics additive bisphenol A is safe to use in medical devices – the conclusion: yes, in most cases. Only with the use of plastic devices for new born babies is there a risk of contamination that might pose health problems, concluded the European Union (EU) Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR).
