EU DIRECT TAX

Keith NuthallTHE EUROPEAN Commission is developing plans for the European Union (EU) to directly tax the citizens of the EU, rather than relying on earmarked transfers of national revenues, for instance from customs duties. The moves were revealed in an interview with EU budget Commissioner Michaele Schreyer in the German newspaper Handelsblatt. She claimed that such a move would boost "transparency" in EU taxation, given that increasing amounts of money are transferred to Brussels.
