EU CHALLENGES RUSSIAN PORK IMPORT BAN AT THE WTO

THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) against Russia’s import ban on pigs and porkmeat sourced from across the EU, following four cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) detected in Lithuania and Poland.“We are forced to take this matter to the WTO because we have exhausted all diplomatic avenues to try and find a solution,” the European Commission’s trade spokesman John Clancy told journalists in Brussels today.The EU action triggers a 60 day consultation period between the bloc and Russia at the WTO.
