EU ANNOUNCES TRADE PROTECTION FOR CZECH BEER

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Commission has announced geographical indication protection for a Czech beer 'B?eznický le?ák'. It means any beer bearing the name sold in the European Union (EU) must henceforth be made traditionally and in its home region. Currently brewed by Czech company Pivovar Herold B?eznice, the Commission has laid down standards for this beer: it must be "moderately to medium fermented... characterised by a delicate but distinctively bitter taste, a full body, a rich golden colour...a high level of crispness with a clean hoppy aroma ...
